Ranking higher and faster in search engines is really beneficial from traffic and conversion perspectives. It helps your website gain authority among search engines that will display your content in quick time if you have done your SEO (Search Engine Optimization) properly. Yes, it also depends on the SEO plugins you use and the metrics you follow while doing the SEO. But it tends to get frustrating if you have to do it for every post, every month, and every year. How about automating your SEO? Sounds interesting? Yes, it does. In this post, I will tell you about what is SEO automation, how does it work, and what is the process to follow for automating the SEO.
Before we go into automation, let’s understand a few terms related to SEO.
What is SEO?
SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization where a website owner can align their content adopting certain processes and metrics that helps it rank faster.
In short, SEO is making your website and its content visible to the search engines for identification and ranking purposes.
What is the need to do SEO?
The reason one should perform SEO is to inform search engines like Google and Bing about your website and its content.
There is a ton of information available online searched by millions of people. And each individual performs a search using a phrase or a term based on their own understanding.
You can go ahead and find those phrases or terms from the Google search bar and start writing the content.
But this is the standard method used by every other online marketer who will Google the search terms and publish the content. This creates a backlog of content that is sequenced, crawled, and displayed slowly by search engines.
You may have to wait for days, or months to see your content ranking and then display it on the first few pages of search engines.
This is the reason it is better to research the terms and phrases on a keyword tool that provides statistical insights like the traffic and number of websites associated with those terms.
This helps you to select a term that has high volume with low competition that will quicken your content rankings and appearance.
Similarly, following certain procedures related to keywords, images, descriptions, links, etc. while publishing your content will boost the search engine rankings further.
To summarize, SEO is very important from a rankings perspective which will in the end result in more traffic, sales, and conversion. So, not only rankings but one has to look at business growth and financial benefits while performing SEO.
What is SEO automation?
Automation of SEO is like eliminating some of the manual tasks and performing them following a standard process or with the help of plugins.
For example, automating the dates that are part of any content, keyword insertion, meta title, meta descriptions, etc. These can be part of a strategy that one can perform while writing the content and SEO plugin.
SEO automation is a bigger word to understand than implement it practically. This is because SEO is an ever-evolving process and any automation may not be a full-proof solution.
As an example, page loading speed, image resolution, device compatibility are also SEO metrics and are more technical in nature. These can be improved only with the help of your website hosting network, themes, page builder plugins, etc.
The algorithms and technicalities involved with search engines keep changing and so some of the common and repetitive tasks can be auto-structured but not everything.
Types of SEO Optimization
Basically, there are two types of SEO optimization that are most commonly used:
On-page SEO: On-page SEO involves components such as keywords, post title, meta title, meta descriptions, etc. This can be performed during content creation and is very easy to implement.
Off-page SEO: Off-page SEO is related to building backlinks. These could be internal and external links that are exchanged between your own website and another website that you refer to in the content.
Both types of SEO optimization can be performed strategically with manual intervention and automated plugins.
Why SEO automation is important?
Normally, performing SEO steps one by one takes time and so does ranking. But, when you follow the SEO implementation process and use automation plugins, it helps speed up your website rankings in search engines.
The automation makes SEO relatively easy and saves you valuable time and effort.
What are the SEO automation resources?
Some of the resources are mostly plugins related to SEO, keywords, social media, etc. Almost every SEO plugin has on-page SEO optimization and social media optimization inbuilt. Some of the examples are All-in-one SEO, RankMath, Yoast, etc.
Similarly, there are many keyword research tools that you can use to find keywords for faster rankings. Some of the examples are Jaaxy, Moz, SemRush, Ahref, etc.
How to automate SEO?
The automation of SEO should be based on a strategy. Yes, you will have to make use of SEO plugins, and keyword research tools but adding the below steps by default while writing content will automatically speed up the process of rankings.
First, ensure to research a keyword that has good average monthly searches approximately more than 30. The keyword should make sense and do not have more than 100 websites/pages in competition.
Next, ensure to follow the below checklist before publishing your website content:
Targeted keywords –
Your targeted keywords should be part of your post title, the first paragraph of your content, at least one heading, meta title, and meta description. Some of the SEO plugins auto-populate the targeted keywords in meta title, and meta description so you don’t have to redo them.
Image attribution –
Make sure to have at least one image in your content that has a targeted keyword as a description in the alt-text field. Ensure the image (s) are not too big and have a standard resolution of or within 1680×840. This helps fast loading of webpages.
Video (optional) –
It is recommended to have a relevant video embedded in the content. You can also insert the link of the video however, to make it more visual and SEO-friendly it is better to embed it between the content.
Internal & External links –
Building links is still important from the SEO perspective. Create sentences or phrases where you can insert one internal link that directs visitors to the other post on your website.
Similarly, add one external link in a sentence directing to Wikipedia or any other external website/source based on your research. Ensure not to mention terms like ‘Click here’ or ‘Go here’, etc. as it is not preferred by search engines. Instead, insert a link with the flow of your content.
Social media optimization –
Like search engines, social media channels such as Facebook, and Twitter also follow certain terms and phrases to show your content on their platform.
The best way to optimize it is by using social media options in SEO plugins. Almost all the SEO plugins have dedicated social media sections that you can use.
Just copy and paste the meta title and meta description that also have your keywords in the social media title and social media description fields. Add the post image.
The image could be your post’s featured image or you can create a new image of your choice to meet the social media trends and following.
Again, some of the SEO plugins auto-pick these details such as meta title and meta description from your search engine details.
Lastly, add a strong and powerful call-to-action button in the end or in between the post. The main purpose of your content is to help your visitors know about certain things. When you are educating them also ensure to provide solutions to their problems.
This could be directing to another website or your own resource that you feel will help your visitors. Such a call-to-action button is considered a goodwill gesture and valuable among search engines that can prioritize ranking your content quickly and higher in searches.
Making the above points as part of your content creation will surely boost your search engine rankings. Yes, it does need some manual intervention in the beginning but once you’ve got used to it then it will become permanent components of your content.
From an automation aspect, every SEO plugin that you use also considers these points important and provides ratings to your post/page. And therefore, before you publish the content make sure to go through the ratings which should be close to 100/100.
Ensure to fulfill the discrepancies highlighted by your SEO plugin to speed up the ranking process.
SEO is not rocket science and neither a cakewalk. It takes months or even years for some to understand the logic and algorithms of SEO.
Some of the basic criteria to rank your content higher and quickly is to keep it meaningful, valuable, and helpful. Such type of content is always preferred by search engines even if they lack the SEO metrics we discussed above.
However, ensuring and implementing those factors in your content will definitely increase the process of rankings and give your content and website authority. And once your website achieves authority, SEO is just a formality.
From the automation perspective, you will find innumerable plugins and software. This may be good in bits and pieces but there is no such thing called permanent solution in SEO.
So, my personal recommendation is to follow the methods and factors provided in this article and make use of the options from your SEO plugin and keyword research tool. This will definitely help you automate and fulfill 90% SEO requirements.
