The aim here is to help you with the process and not the method. You can create a strategy of your own choice that suits your needs and is relevant to your website niche.

To start with, a strategy should be documented. Create a word document or a Google doc with the following columns.

  1. Product Reviews
  2. Buying Guides
  3. Information
  4. Category

Product reviews column can be further divided into individual reviews/group reviews. Product reviews are posts related to products that are relevant to your niche. For example, dieting books and supplements. You can write reviews on one or more than one product covering the features, pricing, pros, and cons.

Buying guides are posts related to the products that you want to review. These topics basically include what to look for in a product while buying, mainly the features, types, cost, etc. Now, buying guides can be individual posts or included with your product review posts. The choice is yours.

Information or learning posts are typically blog posts with information on how to use the specific product, how to install it, how to clean it, etc. The end result of these posts will direct your visitors to product reviews or buying guides.

Category column is used for the identification of posts based on their topic. Again, this depends on individual preference. In case you want to revisit any post or blog, you can easily filter those from the category column.

Once the columns are ready it’s time to research the content. Let’s take our example of men’s dieting.

First, go to Google and search for men’s dieting products. You will get a few products like this.

Click them individually or copy the product name and paste it into Amazon or any other online marketplace to find more about it. Check the product details.

Look for a product that has good customer reviews and ratings with reasonable pricing. If it fits your category copy and paste the product details into the product review column.

Next look for other results that you found in Google. In our case, after the products, there are some blog results related to men’s dieting plan, weight loss program, etc.

One of the results under the title ‘The 10 Best Weight Loss Diet Plans for Men’ has a sentence that says ‘What can a man eat to lose weight’. This topic is relevant to our men’s dieting niche and could be part of information reviews.

To know more about the topic research it into your keyword research tool. In our scenario, I have found that the traffic for the ‘What can a man eat to lose weight’ topic is less than 10 which is not encouraging.

At the same time, I have found two more relevant topics in the same category that has good average traffic with low competition. They are ‘What to eat to lose weight for men’ and ‘Foods that help men lose weight’. So, we have found one or maybe two topics that can be added to our information column.

Again, if you see the result from Google the same post provides many topics related to weight loss diet such as ‘Mediterranean diet’, ‘Low carb diet’, ‘Paleo diet’, etc. These topics can be further researched as individual topics and we can find many products under these categories on different online platforms.

For example, the Paleo diet. There are many books on the Paleo diet on Amazon. So, you can go ahead and add these books to your product review columns.

Similarly, if you further drill down on the Mediterranean diet in your keyword research tool you will find terms such as ‘Mediterranean diet weight loss’ or ‘Mediterranean diet for heart health’ which will be a new topic for your website. You can go ahead and add these to your information column.

You can further expand your search on the Mediterranean diet by adding ‘Best Mediterranean diet’ that can be part of your buying guide column. As you can see, we have already found almost 4-5 topics and keywords to build our content around.

The more your research on these topics, the more options you will get to add to your content strategy doc. It may not take more than 2 hours to build a content strategy that will become your base for creating consistent content. As a result, you will never run short of ideas or topics to build your website by having a content strategy in place.
